Keith & Sons Soul Food Cafe in Landover, MD serves up a warmly casual dining experience rooted in classic soul food and hearty breakfast fare. This spot fits the bill for anyone craving generous portions of comforting, home-style Southern dishes without the fuss of fine dining. It’s the kind of neighborhood place where locals swing by for filling morning plates or dive into rich, savory meals that echo family recipes.

The atmosphere is straightforward and unpretentious, with limited seating that fills up quickly during peak hours but often sees a steady turnover as many prefer takeout. The service is attentive without being overbearing, and the space feels like a small, welcoming community hub rather than a formal restaurant. It’s the sort of place where the familiarity of the menu matches the dependable, hospitable vibe of the staff.

Breakfast draws a good crowd, especially those who enjoy hearty classics like their shrimp & grits, well-crafted omelets, and waffle or pancake options with a variety of flavors. For lunch or dinner, the soul food offerings shine with dishes like smothered pork chops with mac and cheese and gravy, jerk turkey wings, and baked chicken served alongside rice and cabbage. The baked mac and cheese is notably less runny than typical recipes, which seems to please mac and cheese lovers who prefer a more substantial, oven-baked texture.

Portion sizes here usually exceed what you might expect, frequently enough to share or save for later, making it a practical choice for a filling meal that’s not too complicated. Sides like collard greens, black-eyed peas, and potato salad add classic touches that emphasize down-home flavors.

This café works best for locals who want a solid, no-nonsense meal with soul food roots and for visitors exploring the area seeking authentic, everyday flavors of Southern cooking in a friendly setting. Mid-morning or early afternoon visits offer a slightly more relaxed pace, avoiding the busier breakfast rush while still enjoying fresh, warm dishes in a space that feels like part of the neighborhood rhythm.

I love this place! The staff is attentive the food is delicious and random side note their bathroom is relatively clean. I am a vegetarian and a mac and cheese lover. I typically get stuff like rice cabbage mac and cheese etc and other places be it Jamaican, Caribbean, or other soul food places sometimes have runny/wet mac and cheese but theirs is baked and delicious. Quickly becoming one of my go to.

First time at Keith and Sons and my eyes were pleasantly pleased. The food looked neat, delicious and plentiful. I ordered a rib dinner with greens and potato salad. My husband ordered jerk chicken, rice and string beans. It was enough food on each plate to feed 2. We sat in the restaurant and ate and the food was scrumptious. The seating is minimal, but most people preferred their food and left. I highly recommend this restaurant!
